The purpose of the study was to examine the career aspirations and choices of public and private schools grade 8 students. Qualitative research method was employed for this study. A sample of 30 students was taken from district Sheikhupura: 15 from public and 15 from private schools. In-depth semi structured interviews were carried out for data collection. Interview questions investigated the career choices and aspirations, perceived hurdles, and factors influencing them. Data were analyzed using modified data analysis technique developed by Creswell. Becoming a doctor, joining army, and becoming a cricketer were the most commonly reported career choices for both public and private school students. Most of the public school students aspired to join conventional careers. They were more interested to do public sector jobs. Private school students showed higher level of interest to join non-conventional areas. They also showed interest to run their own business. Parents’ occupation, family influence, and role of electronic, print and social media were identified as some of the influential factors mentioned by the students. The study suggests that the students should be provided with proper guidance and counseling about their career aspirations and choices so that they may make more suitable decisions and prepare themselves better for their desired careers.
