Abstract
The main aim of this research is to investigate the relationship between cross-cultural management and employee motivation in international NGOs working in the area of Khyber Pukhtun Khwa in Pakistan. This research uses a mixed methods approach of both quantitative and qualitative methods, particularly, semistructured interviews and questionnaire survey was used to collect data. Probability sampling was used to derive the sample for quantitative data and a purposive sampling technique was used to derive sample for semi-structured interviews. The quantitative data collected is analyzed via Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) operations and qualitative data was analyzed by content analysis. A post positivistic approach is adopted. This research investigated the impact of cross-cultural management on employee motivation and also the effect of demographic variables on the relationship between cross-cultural management and employee motivation. Mainly the participants’ perception of the impact of culture on employee motivation is positive and constructive. The result from Scatter plot diagram of cross-cultural management and employee motivation shows that all the points are neatly arranged in a narrow cigar shape, which suggests that there is a strong correlation between the two variables. Furthermore, Pearson correlation co-efficient (r) value if 0.513 which shows a strong positive relationship between the two variables. The interpretation of qualitative data also reveals a relationship between the two. This research will provide new insights on cross-cultural management and perceived employee motivation in the context of NGOs. Although the results were favorable, but still more work needs to be done using a broad range of sample before it can be strongly suggested to scholars and practitioners that cross-cultural management has an impact on employee motivation.
