Code Switching and Second Language Acquisition in Educational Space of Pakistan

Abstract
The present paper addresses the attitude of Pakistani students towards Urdu- English code-switching. It is one of the significant issues in Pakistan. Cultural hybridism and bilingualism are the cause of Code switching. It occurs when a speaker rapidly replaces a word with another language. It is not a lack of competence it is cause of cultural hybridity. To determine the attitude toward Urdu- English codeswitching, this paper investigates 100 English-speaking students of Sargodha (Pakistan). One of the widely cited models of bilingual language is the Revised Hierarchical Model (RHM) represented by Kroll and Stewart. Data have been analyzed through SPSS 23 program. The purpose of scrutinizing code-switching is to arouse the interest of the students to learn the English language. It is to determine whether codeswitching is a positive approach in second language acquisition. The results of this paper will be fruitful for second language learners in the educational space of Pakistan.
